From Asia-Pacific, to the Americas to Europe, each student team has shown amazing innovation and collaboration throughout this year’s competition, proving that the global future of STEM is extremely bright.

Regional winners of Tracking and Reducing CO2 Emissions Challenge

AMERICAS
University of Alberta EcoCarUniversity of Alberta EcoCar, Canada, Deciding that passenger vehicle emissions are best reduced by improving driver habits, the University of Alberta EcoCar team proposed a solution that increases fuel efficiency by using individual driver data to provide personalised feedback.
EUROPE
AlecTEDAlecTED, Turkey, The AlecTED team turned to the natural world for inspiration when attempting to reduce the CO2 emissions of passenger vehicles, exploring how specific vehicle formations could help reduce drag friction on the road.
ASIA
Alamat UPAlamat UP, Philippines, To help track and reduce CO2 emissions from passenger vehicles, the Alamat UP team designed a mobile app, titled CERO (CO2 Emission Reduction Operation), which helps users to monitor their fuel consumption and reduce it by implementing eco-driving best practices.

Regional winners of Decarbonising Road Freight Challenge

AMERICAS
Eco Octano UFPR EléctricoEco Octano UFPR Eléctrico, Brazil, To tackle the challenge of decarbonising road freight transport, the Eco Octano UFPR Eléctrico team conceived a transport management AI system that would help to gather relevant shipment data, before outlining the options in order of their estimated CO2 emissions.
EUROPE
Galway Energy-Efficient Car, IrelandGalway Energy-Efficient Car, Ireland, With an aim to decarbonise road freight transport, the Galway Energy-Efficient Car team identified the aerodynamics of heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) as a key area of potential improvement.
ASIA
DTU SupermileageDTU Supermileage, India, To effectively decarbonise road freight transport, the DTU Supermileage team proposed an approach that focused on three key areas: logistics and supply chain; onboard carbon capturing and utilisation; and vehicle efficiency.

Regional winners of Electric Vehicle Battery Charging Challenge

AMERICAS
CCE CollectiveCCE Collective, United States, The CCE Collective team’s solution to optimising an all-electric drive from Rio de Janeiro to Toronto involved a significant revamp of the car itself, alongside the addition of an advanced GPS system.

Ecocar UNICAMP BrazilEcocar UNICAMP, Brazil, With CO2 emissions top of mind, the Ecocar UNICAMP team designed a mobile app to help optimise electric vehicle (EV) travel between Rio de Janeiro in Brazil and Toronto in Canada.
EUROPE
EcogeniumEcogenium, Germany, To optimise the journey of an electric vehicle (EV) between London and Moscow, the Ecogenium team designed a mobile app with navigation and user enjoyment at its core.
ASIA
Team ETAETA, India, Selecting a Tesla Model 3 Long Range Performance 2019 as their electric vehicle of choice, the ETA team explored how both mathematics and chemistry can help overcome the current limitations of long-distance electric vehicle (EV) driving.
